Stars - The twenty-seventh door

Stars are all around in the Christmas season, even more than usual over the year.
When I think of stars and Christmas, I imagine them in or on top of a tree or outside in a cold winter night.

The star I want to talk about today, however, is the cymbal star in the church I went to as a child. Back then I didn't know or even think about what cymbals were. All we saw was the little star way up there on the organ with the little bells, not what was behind it. When we sang "O du fröhliche", a German Christmas carol, the star would begin to rotate, the cymbals would start to play, and the special sound that was so exclusive to Christmas made us feel all warm and mushy inside.
Although I haven't heard it in person for many years, the feeling is still there ...

  1. What a nice memory! My favorite star memory is from a week when I took my daughter to a model competition when she was 9. I didn't care if she won, it was just a fun week where I focused solely on her. It was in New York City. We spent every minute she was not in competition sightseeing at kid-friendly places. When we came home I made an album for her with stars as the theme. Thanks for bringing back that memory.

  2. I don't have any special star memories, but enjoyed reading yours and Carole's.

  3. When I think of stars, they aren't related to Christmas. Stars make me think of the book, "Clan of the Cavebear" and how the Clan people believed that each star was the hearth of someone who had passed from this life into the next life. That has stuck with me all this time because I liked the thought so much.

Thank you for including my prototype star in your post, Cat. I hope to eventually make something a bit more polished, but I do like this concept.

    1. I never read that, but I do like the association of stars being people we love
