Interview with the artist - Eva aka Eveqi

I haven't had an artist interview on my blog in a while, and I'm very happy to get back to those features by introducing a lady whom I met on deviantArt.
To be honest, these interviews are just as interesting for me as they hopefully are for you because they teach me more about artists whose work I love and people I like. In this case I learned that I actually have missed out on some of Eveqi's pieces, shame on me!
Enough rambling from my side, I'll give the word to Eveqi now.

Tell us a little about who you are and where you come from.
I'm a married woman having two kids. I live in Prague, Czech Republic, where I also work as IT developer.
What's your craft/art and how did you get to do it in the first place?
My main interest is in making jewelry, to which my sister in law brought me over her lovely bead works. I felt unsatisfied with the circle of my daily duties and wanted to have something real in hand at the end of the day. I needed something to relax, ease mind from sad thoughts and worries, so since I visited DeviantArt and seen all the beauty people can make even just by hands and at home conditions.. I fell in love with it :)

I think this is one of the most asked questions – where does your inspiration come from?
I would say from the mood and observing the nature and other crafters :P I like work with natural stones and they "lead the way" so to speak. A tender pink rhodonite can't be used on something scarily shaped, each agate slice or quartz has its own color and pattern like whispering what to make with them.
And I also have a personal muse - great advisor, designer and mainly friend Mates Laurentiu. Some of my works are made according to his ideas. I really enjoy cooperation and trying to close the reality to vision.. the more challenging it is, when it's not my vision :D
Tell us a fun thing about yourself.
Oh, I'm not a very funny person.. but some of my experiments are. Like when I wanted to smooth back side of the dragon head pendant made of tin, I was working on 3 days.. all the sculpturing of plasticine, making mold of plaster.. and I put it into pot with bottom accumulating heat so when I moved it away from fire, it melted to pool. You can see the later version of amulet and link to pictures of this story here.

Do you do other crafts, if yes, what?
Yes, I try many things. During summer it was woodcarving.. the pedestal for flowers is still in progress. Tiny woodcarving to make molds for gingerbread is waiting for a good wood to be found. But I've already started playing with leather and am combining it with wires. I hope to show the results soon :) Yet the main category is glass - I enjoy engraving on glasses with Dremel tool, it's a lot of fun and results useful in kitchen XD As a side effect, I don't feel scared of dentist, because the drill has the same sound as his. I would also like to learn lamp work and making glass beads, but I need to find some more free time first.
Which one of your pieces is your absolute favorite? Which one was the hardest to make and why?
That's not an easy question - most of all I wear the steampunk archangel because it's simple and fits to most of the dress
and the simple pendant made of cubes and wire for the same reasons.
Otherwise every piece I made with love and with a specific thought.. so I really can't make a pick.
And hardest to make? Hmm, probably these earrings  because I made them according to a concrete design and are small; it was difficult to fix the rivoli with wire while keeping the shape.

Is there someone whom you admire and who inspires you?
LOL, that's so many people. It's wonderful how everyone has a new view at things and can bring something original to it. I really can't name all of them. But I still remember the first wire-wrapper whose art impressed me, Oksana aka UrsulaOT.
From the kindest people I met it's Ludmila aka KL-WireDream who gladly shared some methods she uses on her beautiful work.
The wired trees are great from Sandra aka Magpie Poet, Gone Wishing and Cynthia Desgagné are awesome with rings,  Jodi Hesting aka Andromeda and Antonija Gospic aka Faeriedivine with lampwork, Viczan is inreachable in glass engraving, MinkuLul paints beautifully on silk, Richard Carey aka Braindeadmystuff makes the unbelievable sculptures of wire, Magdalena aka Dark Lioncourt makes lovely necklaces and Vedrana aka Cayca and Cat aka Cat's Wire (oh wait, that's me, well, thank you!) are masters of beads :D
If you had free choice of just one supply you can use for your craft/art, what would you be dreaming of, no matter how expensive?
Varied natural stone (the tiny ones with holes of course) :P
Do you sell online, if yes, where can we find you?
No, I do it just for fun, when the time allows :)
Is there anything you feel you need or want to tell the world outside now?
I'd like to thank all the awesome people who share their work and let others to inspire and learn.. and also to the owners of such pages, where we can see it and present our work.
And most of all I'd like to thank Mates Laurentiu for his support, kind words, lovely ideas, inspiration and beautiful friendship.
Last, but not least I want to share my personal favorite of Eveqi's work ...

You want to know and see more? What are you waiting for?

The ladies have moved

I'm sorry. I haven't even wished you all a Happy New Year yet, but things are going a little crazy in the Cat's Wire realm.
A belated Happy New Year, may it be a better one than the old one was for many of us.

I didn't even share all my latest work with you, but have you visited my Facebook page yet? Most of it makes at least a sneak peek appearance there, I also haven't been able to take pictures and list lately.
So if you want to know what the "zebra diamond" is or what my loom has produced - with my help - in the last two weeks, hop over there, I'd be glad to see you.

Now a little news update.
The ladies have moved ... that means partly me *waving from the desk temporarily set up in my bedroom* but also my model ladies Jo and Jacqueline who made it downstairs today. You can tell there are a little confused, also they are not in their regular spot yet, but I hope I can create a temporary photo set-up for them with Buster cheering them along. Yup, they'll have to live in the bunny room for a while, who knows, maybe they'll never want to come out of there again with such a charming host around!
