Quote of the week

The other day I sat at the computer and played an online game. Suddenly I felt an overwhelming urge to be in Scotland. To be frank that was a weird feeling because I had absolutely no idea what triggered this. I only have been to Scotland once and yes, I do want to go there again, and also yes, I still believe I will see Nessie one day, but why would I be overcome by that feeling at 9.30 in the evening while trying to clean a little magic town of spider webs to relax my mind?
Actually the answer is easy. It was the background music of the game. When thinking about it I had hummed along all the time. I had tried to whistle along with the flute, but Esme gave me one of her glares to remind me how much she hates whistlers (about the same glare Sheldon in The Big Bang Theory gave Leonard when he tried to whistle). So what was it about that music that made me long for Sco...... ooooooh! Suddenly I knew. It reminded me of another song.
This one. Enjoy.

P.S. I really, really want to go to Scotland now.
P.P.S. Yes, I know that is not a "real" quote. Who cares?
P.P.P.S. I'm not that much of a Mark Knopfler fan, but I do love his music in Local Hero and The Princess Bride. Hm.

Let's try something new today (might not be last time). We all know that the score is just as important for a movie as are the actors and their lines, sometimes even more important.
We have our favorite songs and maybe don't even know they are from a movie.

I love this movie, I love the book, but I loved the song by Art Garfunkel first. And I have to admit I still get tears in my ears watching, ready, listening ... for different reasons.
I hope you'll enjoy as much as me.

P.S. Blackie, you were a great Mom.

Blackbird's singing in the dead of night ...

I have loved this song by the Beatles since I was 12 years old. That was when I got my first own cassette player, a used one from a friend, together with her Beatles cassettes that she had grown out of. My love affair with their songs began then and has not ended since.

Now this song from the White Album from 1968 inspired me to make another of my wire critters. I am not sure how the little fellow got so fat if all he gets are small worms like the one in his beak now, but maybe this is just a snack before he really digs in at Bird McDonald's or something like it? And of course he's not singing right now because it would be bad manners with his beak full.

Let's do something a bit different today. It will still be a movie, it will still be a quote, but not from the spoken text.
For this post I chose one of my favorite musicals and I'll take a quote from one of my favorite songs.
The lips already give it away, I guess. I'm talking about The Rocky Horror Picture Show. It wasn't easy to just pick one, but here it is now ...

Let's do the Time Warp again!

So, people, who is ready to dance with me?? You know how it goes, don't you?
It's just a jump to the left
And then a step to the right
With your hands on your hips
You bring your knees in tight
But it's the pelvic thrust that really drives you insane,
Let's do the Time Warp again!

Ok, you know where to send the videos of you doing the Time Warp. Gee, I'd love to see!

I'm sorry, Esme

It would be wrong to think that Ponder is the only psycho cat in this house.
His sister Esme (Terry Pratchett fans might know her full name is Esmerelda Weatherwax) comes close, even if she doesn't have "Da Voice". She's a girl after all and while Ponder is the yodelling expert, Esme has a wonderful squeaking soprano.

There are two situations in particular that make her show her diva's abilities.

The first one is when I take pictures on the chest of drawers in the tall guy's "playing room". For some strange reason she can live well with me taking pictures somewhere else, but although she likes to sit on the chest without getting angry or anxious, she comes running from downstairs (!) as soon as I set up something there. I haven't found a reason yet, but it makes her downright aggressive sometimes!

The second one is when I whistle. She can't stand my whistling. Today I was sitting at the computer, listening to music, one of my favorite songs came up and since I lost half of my singing voice (the high-pitched notes), I whistle more than I used to. Mistake! Lady Es came running upstairs and squeaked the second voice to the song in utter despair. When I didn't stop right away, she bit me. Not the kind that hurts, but the kind that says "Stoooooooooooop, please!! My ears!!"

Now all I want to know is - why doesn't she do that when Kyu Sakamoto is whistling in his song (that I was listening to)??? Feel free to comment on this .......
