Do you ever wonder where your brain went without telling you?
The other day, I was in the kitchen and put some "emergency bread" into the oven (I don't bake and ran out of my bread from the bakery, but I usually have something in the fridge for cases like these). I set the timer and then boiled water for my favorite tea, topped up Gundel's plate - you know just stuff you do when you're waiting. Then I went back to my book, but there was a little voice telling me I forgot something.
Indeed I did. I had set the timer, but hadn't turned the oven on!
I'm truly the Queen of the Kitchen ...
I'm much better with books and decided to give Anne's and Olivia's "Friday Book Snippets" a try where you share a quote - a sentence or short paragraph - from the beginning of a book you read at the moment and one from page 56 (or another).
Today, mine are from "A Tiger's Wedding" by British actress Isla Blair.
Beginning: "I banged my sandals together to shake out any cockroaches or scorpions, the gesture an automatic reflex, like saying 'bless you' when someone sneezed."
Page 56: "The greatest change was in Fiona. At night there'd be choking sounds from her bed, which she'd try to muffle with her pillow and when I asked her if she was crying, she always said no. But she was - a gulping sort of crying."

Cat from Cat's Wire has what she calls a jumping spider brain. She has many interests and will blog about whatever catches her attention - crafts, books, old movies, collectibles or random things.

DeleteLOL. I can relate very much Cat. I'm not the greatest in the kitchen either, and often find myself 'just checking my email,' and then forgetting all about my pots and pans. But part of you was obviously present and warned you!
ReplyDeleteWell, it sure couldn't have burned 😂 Usually, I just load the washing machine and don't turn it on (that has happened more than once, funny, never with the dishwasher)!

DeleteSo glad to know I"m not the only one that does stuff like that! I'm notorious for forgetting to set the timer in the first place and then have to guess how long something has been in the oven and do some math to get it "pretty close."

DeleteThe timer is my most important kitchen tool. I don't cook often enough to have a real feeling for it and it would probably be disaster.

DeleteOr, have you ever started to put the ice cream in the pantry? How about the chips in the refrigerator? I do these crazy things all the time, but I've always managed to catch myself. I would have been the one to turn the oven on but forget the timer!

I've done all kinds of things. My highlight isn't from the kitchen, though. I had ordered a set of blouse, blazer, and skirt and tried it on, but was late for an appointment. As I hadn't decided yet if I wanted to keep it, I didn't want the cats to get to it and put it away safely. You know what that means. I didn't find it for another year. No joke. The problem was that I hadn't counted on how weird I could be. I had put it in one of my book cabinets and of course I chose the shelf with the animal encyclopedia that I hardly ever used and it was so pushed back into the shadows that you could only see it by opening the cabinet and move the books. One year.

DeleteForgetting to turn the oven on is better than forgetting to turn the oven off. I had a boatload of basil from my garden ruined because when the timer went off I turned that off, but not the oven. All the time I wasted cutting, washing, and breaking the leaves off the basil for nothing. So upsetting. Thanks for the party.
