Zibbet finds of the week - Still cats

It is not easy trying to concentrate if you have a naggy cat sitting next to you. It's not much better if said cat is on your lap, his claws digging into your arm. Not to hurt you, mind you, just to hold on. It's so easy to fall off a lap these days. Gotta think about the height. 2 feet are 2 feet, terrible things could happen. Maybe it will be more comfortable on the shoulder. What are 17 lb among friends, right? The shoulder is even higher, though. Better hold on. So good to have claws.
To cut this story short, today's finds of the week are brought to you by Ponder, the master of this house. And mine.
It's okay, about two years ago I had already announced there would be more cat finds from Zibbet ...

Zibbet finds of the week - Longing for spring

It was around the same time last year that I asked for spring.
The sun is starting to come out every, now and then, but even I would like the temperatures to climb a little higher. Give me a little sun, some flowers and let me able to take that big winter jacket off!
Maybe I can coax spring out of its hiding hole with these beautiful finds of the week from artisans on Zibbet.

Zibbet finds of the week, Christmas plants - The twenty-first door

Last year I told you a little about the history of the Christmas tree and that evergreen plants were used in winter celebrations way before someone thought about putting apples, nuts, and sweets on a tree.
The fir and other kinds of evergreen trees that are put up for Christmas nowadays are not the only plants we connect with this holiday.
In fact there is a whole list of plants of which I only mentioned a few in this old post. There's the mistletoe of course (one of which we have on our door again this year), there's holly, there's ivy, there are poinsettias and Yule logs, there are Christmas cacti and roses and in some countries radishes (have you ever heard of the Mexican Night of the Radishes before?), pomegranates, and more.

You know what comes next ... a little virtual walk through the garden with beautiful finds. As warm and mild as it is here right now, I hardly even need a jacket! ;-)

Zibbet finds of the week, Have yourself a vintage little Christmas - The fourteenth door

Last week I told you a little about Christmas cards. The next day one of my Facebook friends shared this post about Victorian cards that are slightly different from what we get today. And in the comments I found yet another link about more cards. And THAT obviously made me do an image search for Victorian Christmas cards which led me to more interesting pages and pictures and ... wait, I'm getting distracted here again.
What did I want to say? Oh, I remember. Looking at those vintage cards inspired me to make today's post a completely vintage one. Please enjoy while I'll be going back to my image search ... oh, just look at those frogs and the butterfly and .... *voice trailing off in the distance*

Zibbet finds of the week, Christmas birds - The seventh door

Birds are often connected with Christmas. Just think of all the birds mentioned in the carol "The twelve days of Christmas", the partridge, the turtle doves, French hens, calling birds, geese, and swans.
Popular birds are also the robin, particularly in the UK where it is the unofficial national bird, and the cardinal, mostly in the US.
What made the robin a Christmas bird? In fact there is a story about "Robin Redbreast" giving its name to Victorian postmen and thus earning its spot on Christmas cards, but there are also several other legends, one of them about the robin protecting the Christ child from the fire when it got too hot, one of them about the robin kindling the fire when it was about to go out. In both legends the robin singed its breast and it turned red.
It seems that the cardinal also earned its spot by being bright red, a color that is often said to symbolize Jesus' blood. I have read several posts about people saying that a cardinal on the tree is a tradition because it's a symbol of hope and is supposed to bring good luck and peace to the family.

So today I went bird watching on Zibbet again and this is what I found for you.

Zibbet finds of the week - Snow again

I have talked about snow and snowmen before and I brought some lovely snowy items as finds of the week.
What can I say? Winter is on its way and while some of my friends had the incredible "luck" of having ten inch of snow or more already, I have been shocked by snowfall twice so far (when writing this). It just dusted over the cars and roofs, but after eating two strawberries from the garden only a week ago - and they were good and sweet, too! - I was speechless when seeing snow.
Yes, I don't like it, you already know that. Nothing is going to change that. Don't fear, I will not tell you about my childhood trauma again. Instead I will give you snow that even I like. Have fun!

Zibbet finds of the week - Fall

We are in the middle of fall (we meaning the Northern hemisphere of course). The trees are dropping their leaves, some of them still seem to be on fire like the young maple tree just outside of the station where I change trains.
We have all heard about Vermont and the Indian summer and I am sure I am not the only one wishing I could visit the gorgeous colors there.
Today my finds are a little different. You are used to a mix of handmade and vintage, arts and crafts, useful and beautiful, from baby shoes to paintings, from shawls to unique dolls, from antique ornaments to miniatures. This time I stayed within one category because I was just blown away by the colors.
Enjoy fall, my friends, it's a wonderful time of year.
