Art Elements Design Challenge and Blog Hop - Faerie

Will I ever learn? Don't even bother, I'll tell you. The answer is NO, NEIN, NON, NEE, NEJ (I could keep going, but you get the idea).
The worst thing about it is that I had a plan for the Art Elements Design Challenge and Blog Hop for which Caroline gave us the topic "Faerie" - which should have given me hundreds of ideas -, not at the beginning of the month, but last weekend. It came sudden and I didn't jump on it right away. Because I never do. Because I have to roll it around in my head first and let it grow on me.
That's how my brain works. It takes a very basic plan or vague idea and then it grabs bits and pieces out of the air and adds them to it or discards things again. Imagine a manikin. You put a basic dress on it and then you start adding a scarf, a belt, gloves, you don't like the scarf and take it off again, then the belt, then you add a shawl, maybe take the gloves off and add a bracelet instead - only my brain uses colors and shapes.
That sounds creative, doesn't it? Instead it's mostly chaos that finally spits out something, and if I'm lucky, it's something good - if not, it ends up behind the summer house like Mr Mo's poor plasticine wife (see "Mary Poppins in the Park", a book that I love very much), well, actually my infamous WIP drawers.

Unfortunately life got in the way over the last week. Work, a crafts class, and then I got sick which sucked up the last bit of motivation. Since Wednesday I have been thinking about opting out of the challenge, I even started writing the email once.
Instead I pulled myself together yesterday and ended up with a variation of my idea because, let's be honest, this was bound to go wrong at some point or at least stray from the original plan which had been a small fairy that I wanted to put on ... no, I'll keep that one to myself, it may still be happening, who knows.

Small, yes, as small as I wanted my fairy to be, no. The proportions had been slightly off, enough so to make me uncomfortable about it when I was looking at her, so I needed to add to the arms and legs which meant I needed to add to the head and body.
I don't know yet if she's a WIP. Maybe she needs some wings after all although I don't think so at the moment. After all she could ride the ladybug, he may look a little small for her, but he's tough through and through (and reminds of the time when I dabbled in polymer clay). Or she could take the "Exotic Butterfly Airline" (I made that strange looking butterfly after I won that box of Twin Beads and ran out of ideas for them) ? ;-)

Now let's see once again how much more organized our other blog hoppers were! :-D

  1. Glad you could join us in the end... she's wonderful! I could see lots more ideas coming from your original.
Also pleased to hear I'm not the only one who works in such a way ;)

Thank you for joining me in the challenge!

    1. Thank you!
I'll have to get better at wrapping figures, then maybe I'll build myself a little army of fairies who can help with the housework so I have more time for challenges! :-P

  2. Ooo I like her very much :D I work like this too, an idea in my head rolling around like a tumble weed then if really really lucky, a seed is planted and... :D

    1. Thank you, Laney!
It can be so rewarding, can it, but if there's pressure, I can almost feel my brain bouncing around trying desperately to do something with what it can find! *lol*

  3. Your sculpture does not seem like a last hour effort. It looks great to begin with. Maybe you can add to it and tweak it to your liking soon.

    1. More like last hours ;-) Thank you!

I would love to make one with a little flower crown eventually for the other idea I mentioned. We will see.

  4. I think some of us work great with plenty of time, and others (like me) work until the last minute (I completely was one eyed sleeping while my blog was taking its time uploading photos at 12:45 am). So I probably have to go back and fix things - like the way I spelled Fairy - Faerie - Fairies... lol. I love that you stick with it and your work is definitely awesome! :)

    1. Sometimes I make changes when I translate the post for my German blog, it's almost a bit like proofreading. Today my internet was so slow, I thought I'd go nuts!

      Thank you so much, Marsha!

  5. Glad you were able to pull this together so quickly! Your little fairy doesn't look last minute though, she looks like you spent quite a bit of time on the design. Love her!

    1. It did take a while, I always underestimate how much wire can go into something like this!
So I spent more time on the wrapping itself than the actual design.

Thank you, Cathy, I appreciate it!

  6. Pressed for time not, you really made a marvelous little fairy from wire. I couldn't imagine getting a form that perfect and small. Great job not giving up to giving up and making an impressive wire image!

I think it helps me that this challenge has a set date for the reveal, no exceptions. That way I feel just enough pressure to make it to a WIP at least.

  7. Your description of what happens, and doesn't, when creating things, made me laugh out loud. It happens to me also. I only manage to get things made because I ignore my housework and other chores. I love the wire work fairy and I am quite sure it would ride the ladybug.

    1. I'm so glad I'm not alone in "creative chaos" ;-)
Thank you! Now I'm thinking of putting her in different situations, maybe make some bead reins for the ladybug etc.

  8. I always seem to make everything last minute so you are not alone your fairy is charming and I love that she is riding a ladybug!

  9. Yes, she could definitely ride the ladybug! Great idea! I must look more into your wire work. Love your fairy!

  10. Well, I must say that your 'back to the wall' project produced a cute little wire fairy with plenty of whimsical pals. And potential still lifes! Creating on the cuff has its merits!!
